Educationalist and women's rights advocate
"To educate a woman is to educate the whole world."
Nana Asma’u was a Nigerian scholar and poet who devoted her life to educating women rich and poor, Muslim and non-Muslim. She believed that seeking education was a religious duty of both men and women and that to deny women this right was to challenge the will of God. She continues to be honoured in northern Nigeria as an early feminist icon and champion of women’s education.
